Activist Body says Council should be disbanded

THE National Council for Building a Better Fiji should be disbanded, says a youth activist group.

"The YPCN stands by the 1997 Constitution. We understand the interim Government has strayed from the basic precincts of democracy and rule of law.

"The political forum should be called and political parties should map a road map for the nation leading to the election," YPCN spokesman Peter Waqavonovono said.

"Bodies such as the NCBBF should be disbanded and all meddling with laws and plans to change laws such as the Electoral Act and institutions including the GCC and military should be shelved," Mr Waqavonovono added.

He added that a talanoa session should be held where political parties talked openly about how to revive the economy and protect youths from poverty, crime and coups and youths should be involved in the process.

Meanwhile NCBBF member Adi Finau Tabakaucoro said the YPCN was being disrespectful.

"The NCBBF is an initiative of the government of the day," said Adi Finau.

"The formulation of the People's Charter is going to benefit the country," she said.
