The Young Peoples Concerns Network says child abuse should and the use of excessive force in our classrooms should stop.
Reacting to a front page newspaper article on a student who was injured after he was allegedly assaulted by a teacher, the network says teachers in Fiji have continued to use corporal punishment even though it has been removed as a privileged of theirs.
We are disappointed that Human Rights Violations continue to happen within our very own schools, Network spokesperson Pita Waqavonovono said.
Recently a teacher in Vunimono High School has been arrested for beating students.
The YPCN is calling for our schools to be safe learning environments free from abuse and fear.
