A MEETING between a non-government organisation and the Chinese Embassy has been postponed following concerns over alleged hidden agenda.
The Young People's Concerned Network said its meeting with Chinese officials scheduled for Friday was called off.
Spokesman Peter Waqavonovono said the embassy's political affairs section was concerned over YPCN's comments about the situation in Tibet and indefinitely postponed the meeting.
"They told me I had made comments recently showing that I had made up my mind on Tibet and that the YPCN will come to the meet with an agenda. They quoted comments from the media where I showed support for Tibet
"I told them the YPCN was looking forward to the meeting because it was our opportunity to speak to them about Tibet and get their perspectives. The Chinese government cannot hide the fact that there is violence in Tibet and that there is a movement within Tibet of people calling for independence from China," Mr Waqavonovono said.
He said the Chinese Embassy would have to put up with a peaceful protest if it will not meet with YPCN officials. Chinese officials could not be contacted yesterday to verify Mr Waqavonovono's claims.
