Ratu Tevita's appointment shocking- Network

FIJI TIMES Thursday, June 26, 2008

Update: 3:00PM The Young Peoples Concern Network believes that the appointment of Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba as the Lau Provincial Chairman is shocking and embarrassment to all the chiefly linage.

YPCN, in a statement today, said Ratu Tevita  had been closely associated with the events of December 6, 2006 thus not setting a good example to the youths and the people of Lau.

The Network has concerns that with the barring of certain representatives such as Anare Jale and Sakiusa Raivoce to the meeting, thus displaying a lack of fairness and transparency.

We believe that what is happening now in the Lau Provincial Council is exposing the intentions of the military in the nation, which is to wipe out any resistance and impose the Military backed People's Charter upon the People of Lau," Network spokesman Tura Lewai said.

It seems the meeting that was held was basically to push his own views and his intentions on the chiefs and all those that would have opposed him were kept out of the meeting.

Mr Lewai said the youths in Lau are disturbed with the appointment and will not accept Ratu Tevita's leadership.

We call on the Vanua ko Lau to convene another meeting, one in which the views and the intentions of all the chiefs are clearly voiced and heard without any intimidation of violence and revocation, he said.
