LETTERS TO THE EDITOR (F/T) : May 15th, 2008
WHAT a sad day it is for Fiji when the Rotuma Island Council supports the People's Charter.
When various provinces in Fiji have refused the Charter, the Rotuma Island Council decides to walk a different road.
After ceremonies marking Rotuma Day and commemorating the ties between Rotuma and Fiji, this decision is a slap in the face. It is no secret that the Island Council is weak and follows the tide of every government.
The Island Council has been bought by the interim Government with cash grants and aid pumped into Rotuma such as the port of entry, Internet services etc.
Does the Island Council represent the true sentiments of its people?
When the day comes when the people of Fiji start pointing fingers as to why we, as a nation, have dropped so deeply into the abyss of illegality, strife, and unconstitutionality, the Rotuma Island Council will find themselves to blame.
