THE BLACK ARMBAND CAMPAIGN

To all the young and young at heart,

It is saddening to see what has happened to our beloved country. Young persons, represent more than 60% of the population of Fiji. More people in Fiji are between the ages of 15 to 30. We can say that majority of the population of Fiji are youths. However youths are not considered in decisions and not the focus of this illegal administration that has revoked our Constitution, denounced the Judiciary and removed our human rights. Our lack of representation should not affect our beliefs and our ideas. While working towards this we can be involved and have an impact on the future of our country and the the future of out children.

It is time for young people to make a stand on what they truly believe is right, noble and just.

In promoting peace and a sustainable future, we ask all young people of the Fiji Islands to consider wearing BLACK ARM BANDS. The arm band should be no more than 2cm in width and to be spun once around the left arm

THE black arm band campaign will run from Wednesday 29th April to 29th May and than reviewed, by organizers through the email address fijiyouthsunited@gmail.com for safety reasons. Fiji youths united is a group of youth advocates who work with various religious, community, schools, NGO and government organizations.  It is time to peacefully stand up. We make this stand for our aspirations for a better Fiji for all its people.

WE wear this in the hope that the voice of young people be heard. What are we saying:

-          give us back our constitution, the 1997 constitution

-          take us back to parliamentary democracy

-          fully respect and give us back our human rights

-          National Leaders must make commitment to respect the Rule of Law

The safety of persons who chose to join this peaceful silent protest can not be guaranteed. However this is the little that we can do, to show that we do not agree with what is happening in our country.

Our unyeilding efforts and hopes for a better Fiji for all of us begins with one small drop.

Martin Luther King, Jr., remarked that "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy".

Young people, let us unite for our country and for it's people. Please Wear black arm bands to support this cause and our Fiji.

Thank you.
