THE Young Persons Concerned Network says interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimaramas comment about Fiji being the safest tourist spot is a slap in the face of tourists and expatriates who have suffered as a result of crime directed towards them.
Network spokesperson Peter Waqavonovono said it is unfair to compare Fiji to nations like Australia and New Zealand, which are large in population and have various economic and social problems.
However the increase of violence and robberies directed at tourists is alarming, and we cant hide behind a magazine article that claims Fiji is safe. We have to realize that Fiji needs to restore its economy and improve its political landscape, said Mr Waqavonovono.
